When a big decision is coming, we ask the people around us.
We ask about changing jobs, moving to a new place, or staying in a relationship.
But sometimes the more we ask, the less clear the answer becomes.
One person tells you to do it, and another tries to talk you out of it.
Both of them are saying it because they care about you.
Still, what people give you is really their own experience.
Someone who did well on that road will tell you to go for it.
Someone who had a hard time on that road will tell you to stay away.
Their answer comes from their situation, not yours.
Only you know your situation, your energy, and what you can live with.
So take advice as information, not as the right answer.
It is also worth thinking about what you are actually asking.
Instead of "What should I do," try asking "What was it like for you?"
The first question puts the decision in someone else's hands.
The second one gathers what you need to decide for yourself.
In truth, we are often already leaning toward one side.
We keep asking because we want someone to make us feel sure.
Sometimes we also want to share a little of the responsibility.
But in the end, you are the one who has to live with it.
If you follow someone else and it goes wrong, part of you blames them.
If you decide for yourself and it goes wrong, you are left with useful experience.
No one gathers every piece of information before making a decision.
Every choice starts with something you still do not know.
So if you have heard enough, it is time to stop asking.
Sit somewhere quiet and ask yourself one question.
If you listened to no one, which way would you want to go?
That answer is probably the one you knew from the start.
The decision is yours to make.
And you are also the one who will stand by it to the end.
